Henri Rousseau's War (La Guerre) is a large oil painting completed in 1894 that depicts a dramatic jungle scene filled with animals and warriors. The painting measures approximately 1.8 meters tall by 3.2 meters wide and is currently housed in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. The painting shows a dense jungle setting, with towering trees and dense undergrowth filling the background. In the foreground, a group of soldiers, dressed in red and blue uniforms, battle against a group of tigers and a large snake. The soldiers are armed with swords, guns, and spears, while the animals use their teeth and claws to fight back.  The composition of the painting is somewhat chaotic, with the various elements of the scene overlapping and blending together. The soldiers and animals are shown in different scales, with some of the animals towering over the humans, adding to the sense of drama and tension. Rousseau, who had never traveled outside of France, was known for his vivid imagination and often drew inspiration from books, illustrations, and botanical gardens. His paintings were frequently criticized by the art establishment during his lifetime, but he continued to paint and develop his own unique style. War is considered one of Rousseau's most famous works and is a powerful example of his unique style and vivid imagination. It captures the sense of danger and excitement of a battle in the wild and remains an enduring example of the power of art to transport viewers to other worlds and times.
